What is Radon?

Radon, an invisible and odorless gas, is a byproduct of the natural decay of uranium found in soil, rocks, and water sources. Radon is a global presence, this gas can effortlessly penetrate the ground and infiltrate structures, including homes and buildings. Given its ubiquitous nature, every dwelling is potentially at risk of radon intrusion, underscoring the importance of testing, a point strongly endorsed by the Surgeon General. Elevated radon levels can be detected in various housing types, including townhouses, condos, homes with different foundation types like slab, basement, or crawlspace, as well as both older residences and newer constructions equipped with radon-resistant features (those built post-2013). For more detailed information on radon, please refer to epa.gov/radon.

Precision Enviro is also licensed to provide radon testing for daycares, schools and multi-family, and commercial buildings.

Reliable Radon Testing

Radon exposure poses significant health risks. Today's well-sealed homes and structures can trap radon gas, allowing it to accumulate to harmful concentrations that overwhelm our lungs' natural repair mechanisms. Such prolonged exposure can lead to lung tissue damage and, ultimately, lung cancer. Shockingly, the EPA indicates that annually, radon exposure contributes to over 21,000 lung cancer deaths, ranking it only behind smoking as a leading cause of this deadly disease. Radon levels can vary widely even between adjacent homes, emphasizing the need for testing in every area.

Radon testing is a simple and efficient procedure. A radon monitor is positioned in a building's lower level, under controlled conditions, for at least 48 hours to ensure comprehensive air sampling. After retrieval we have immediate results with the full report emailed within a few hours.

Whether you are in the process of buying or selling a home, or require a post-mitigation test, time is critical. We provide same day reporting work on radon, 7 days a week. We can usually respond with 24 hours to your inquiries.

The Illinois state interactive map allows you to explore radon data and gain a better understanding of the local risks.
